Hey everyone its Karen Totino from the Saratoga home team of Miranda real estate and today I’m going to talk about a subject that can be a little difficult for people to think about and some difficult conversations to have with your spouse or your loved ones and that is Aging in Place so what is Aging in Place it’s just.
Like what it sounds it’s the ability to live in one’s own home and community independently safely and comfortably regardless of age income or ability level and some interesting statistics are that.
By the year 2030 there’s going to be a 71 percent increase in the number of people that are age 60 and older so.
And when people are polled 82 percent of people say that they want to stay in.
Their homes they don’t want to go to a facility that provides care so we’re gonna have a lot of people wanting to stay in their homes but.
Sometimes that’s not so easy to do particularly if you’re you know have an injury or you have an acute episode like a stroke or heart attack or.
Something that really drastically changes the way.
That you move or think or your ability level on some some levels so sometimes I’m asked what age would you start thinking about this or planning for this and there’s not so much an age as there are opportunities to take some action and start planning and have these conversations and that is.
When you’re building or buying a new home or.
When you’re doing a major renovation of your home or even if it’s just.
A bathroom or kitchen there are some things that you can do to make staying in your home a lot easier so the other thing that I want to talk about is caps designation which is a certified Aging in.
Place specialist and that is a designation given by the National Association of Homebuilders and it basically different people can can achieve this designation such as a realtor like me or it could be a contractor it could be you know anyone but that person is going to.
Be knowledgeable about the aging-in-place process they’re going to be knowledgeable about modifications solutions to common barriers and some common.
You know remodeling projects that can be done so I will be doing a follow-up video with some you know maybe the top three renovations that you can do to make aging-in-place more of a reality but in the meantime.
If you have any questions about the topic please feel free to contact me and I’ll be happy to answer any.
Questions you have so have a great day and later I.
